What Is the Renewal Procedure in Hong Kong for the Business Registration Certificate In Person?
After completing your company registration HK, staying compliant with local regulations is crucial. One key responsibility is renewing the Business Registration Certificate, which is required every one or three years depending on the certificate type. While online renewal is available, some business owners may prefer or need to complete the process in person. Here’s how to do it step by step.
Step 1: Check the Expiry Date
Each Business Registration Certificate comes with an expiry date printed on the document. Around one month before this date, the Inland Revenue Department will send a renewal demand note by mail. If you do not receive it, you are still responsible for initiating the renewal on time.
Step 2: Go to the Business Registration Office
To complete the renewal in person, visit the Inland Revenue Department’s Business Registration Office located at Revenue Tower in Wan Chai. Bring your existing certificate and the demand note if you have received it. You should also carry your Hong Kong ID or passport. If someone else is handling the renewal on your behalf, prepare a signed authorization letter.
Step 3: Pay the Renewal Fee
You can pay the renewal fee using cash, cheque, or EPS at the counter. The standard fee for a one-year certificate is HK$2,250. If your company qualifies for any exemptions or reduced fees, make sure to bring the necessary documentation for verification.
Step 4: Receive and Display the New Certificate
Once payment is processed, the new Business Registration Certificate will be issued immediately. Replace the old certificate at your principal place of business with the new one. It must be clearly visible at all times to meet regulatory requirements.
Why Timely Renewal Matters
Failing to renew your Business Registration Certificate on time can result in fines or penalties, which may affect your company registration status. Keeping the certificate updated ensures your business remains in good legal standing and avoids unnecessary disruptions.
